Given the personal biases that significantly impact our decision-making, especially in electing our political representatives, we at ECI genuinely believe that by raising
awareness and promoting critical thinking, we can work together to save American democracy and the spirit of capitalism.
It is true that careless thinking can have significant consequences in a functioning democratic society like the United States. When citizens fail to engage critically with
information and ideas because of their personal biases, the integrity and effectiveness of democratic decision-making can be undermined.
The critical thinking process, as highlighted by ECI, is intended to guide individuals and communities toward thoughtful, effective decision-making. By following this
process, people are encouraged to evaluate information carefully, consider different perspectives, and make informed choices that strengthen our democracy. With this vision in mind, we established distinct critical thinking communities: one for community leaders, one for parents of young students, one for college graduates, one
for the American workforce, one for reformers, and one for the American electorate.
Community leaders
Community leaders are conveners, translators, and trust builders; they are the infrastructure of trust. When they move, communities move. We would like community leaders to take the following steps:

Host monthly “Democracy Circles” at libraries, faith centers, or parks. These gatherings provide regular opportunities for community members to come together, discuss important issues, and strengthen democratic engagement.

Launch local “Civic Skill Workshops” focused on media literacy, conflict navigation, and community budgeting. These workshops are designed to equip community members with the practical skills necessary to actively participate in civic life.
